Premier Ranj Pillai and Health and Social Services Minister Tracy-Anne McPhee issued this statement last Thursday to mark Disability Pride Month.

鈥淛uly is Disability Pride Month, an opportunity to honour and commemorate the accomplishments of individuals with disabilities while acknowledging their unique lived experiences,鈥� they said.

鈥淭his month was designated to commemorate the efforts of Canadians living with disabilities, which led to the enactment of the Accessible Canada Act on July 11, 2019. The act aims to find, remove and prevent barriers that people with disabilities face.

鈥淲e encourage all Yukoners to listen to the perspectives of individuals with lived experience, engage with those around you and explore literature and other forms of media created by people living with disabilities.

鈥淚t is important that we promote awareness and foster conversation about stereotypes and discriminatory actions that contribute to the unjust treatment of people with disabilities.

鈥淭he Yukon is strengthened by the unique talents and abilities of each individual.

鈥淭his July, let us celebrate the place of Yukoners living with disabilities in the territory鈥檚 diverse society and beyond, and continue to work together to make the Yukon a more inclusive and welcoming place for all.鈥�
