In Memoriam Sandor Istvan Elek
December 20, 1944 - October 13, 1993
Well Dad, it鈥檚 incredible to realize that 30 years have come and gone since you passed suddenly without us being able to say our proper goodbyes! I still miss you.
Thank you for EVERYTHING, thanks for all of the wonderful family vacations when I was growing up. 鈥淲e had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun鈥︹
Thank you for teaching me how to bbq, make an awesome spaghetti sauce and to enjoy fresh oysters, at 11 years old no less!
You taught me so much more than cooking and eating. As a Hungarian immigrant and a proud Canadian; you taught me to remember the past with warmth, but anticipate and look forward to the future with optimism and hope.
Thank you for the bigger lessons too鈥 how to be a man, a better person, loyalty, the value of hard work and the importance of family. I truly wish that you could have met Dionne, Sadie and Kyuss. I know that you would have loved each other immensely.
As I glance backwards through the prism of another lifetime; I now realize that moments spent together with you in our family shops were some of the best times of my life, I really didn鈥檛 appreciate it then but I sure do now! Thank you for all of the business lessons, I think that I am a decent entrepreneur today because of your influence on me.
Most of all; thank you for the unconditional love that you gave, I remember you telling me 鈥淣o matter what you do, you will always be my son and NEVER forget that blood is thicker than water.鈥 Thanks for that Dad.
Dad you were a good man and a great father! I still remember when I was 14 and I asked you 鈥淲hat happens when somebody dies?鈥 You answered 鈥淲ell son; nobody really knows, but I think it鈥檚 like the BEST sleep of your life 鈥 no phones ringing, nobody bugging you, just a REALLY good rest!鈥
I hope and trust that you are now enjoying that rest Dad. I will love you forever. Thanks again. 鈥淚f I could save time in a bottle, the first thing that I鈥檇 like to do, is to save every day, 鈥橳il eternity passes away, just to spend them with you.鈥
Mind枚r枚kk茅 szeretlek dr谩ga edesapam.

Your dad was a wonderful man. I worked for him in Qwanlin Shoes and Sandor鈥檚 Men鈥檚 Wear in 1978-1979, i believe, at the mall. I鈥檓 so sorry for your loss.
